Growing up in Texas, being a University of Texas fan was natural. If you like football, you wanted to be apart of the burnt orange legacy. Every where you go there is longhorn memorabilia  scorching the “Pride of Texas” into your brain. I still remember in 2005 when UT beat the reigning champion USC, 41-38, like it was yesterday. My dad’s best friend called telling him he got a tattoo, we saw him the next day and he had the longhorn emblem branded into his shoulder.

UT and Longhorn Football have run the Lone Star State.

In a recent Texas High School Coaches survey, LonghornDigest.com was trying to get a feel for which Texas school was most popular with players.  The results were…

    1. Texas A&M

    2. Baylor

    3. University of Texas

Who would have thought UT, which in 2011 was voted the most powerful program in American, would fall to the third slot among other Texas colleges. When looking at the accomplishments of A&M and Baylor the fall is understandable. A&M had a Heisman winner, moved to the SEC, and beat Alabama. Baylor won the Big XII steam rolling over teams during the 2013 season. Texas though has not done much besides be Texas. Goes to show that winning actually does sway a fan base.

Will the Longhorns be able to regain Texas? Will the new head coach, Charlie Strong, regain the following of the state? or is this a new era of Texas College Football?
