Breaking the Curse of the Corner

Mellow Mushroom is set to open Monday, July 21, at 11 a.m. and hoping to have broken the “curse” of the corner of Johnson Street and Doucet Rd.

Today, owner and operations manager, Billy Maisano and his team took all avenues necessary to make sure their ground was cleansed of any kind of hex, “For those people that are superstitious we chose to have a witch doctor or family come out and cleanse a place or we had a priest come out and possibly a rabbi as well”.

Not only are they going to be cleansing the house of any bad mojo that might lay dormant on the grounds of the property, but they are also making sure all staff is over prepared for what is to come. “We are going to make it work regardless, but I want to leave nothing to chance, My staff is going to be trained for seven days on how to provide service and great pizza. That is what we do!” Billy told KATC when asked what he planned on doing to make sure his business was not as ill fated as the ones before.

He said that consistency is the key to breaking this curse and that the cleansing was just a precaution.

The Mellow Mushroom is a pizza restaurant that specializes in classic southern pizza, born out of the hippie culture in the 1970s. The first restaurant started in Atlanta, Georgia and has spread to locations throughout the south, including three in Louisiana-Covington, Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
